Our Registered Hearing Instrument Practitioner is certified by the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC to provide cerumen management (ear wax removal) in this clinic.

Cerumen is naturally occurring in ear canals.  It also naturally falls from canals unless blocked or impeded. Using cotton, Q-tips, ear candling and other methods are generally not applicable as these older methods can in fact push cerumen beyond the outer area of the canal where glandular secretion keeps cerumen moist, and back deeper into the canal where it can dry out and lead to complications.

We use either or both

instrumentation and irrigation techniques to manually debride the external auditory meatus of built-up or impacted cerumen in adult ear canals.

Before using any oil in your ears, it is advisable to get otoscopy done so that the extent and nature of any believed impaction is visualized by a certified and licensed clinician. It is possible that a course of drops is undertaken after otoscopy of the canals. Thus, you may need two appointments to complete the ear canal cleaning, but this does not cost more than the listed procedure. 

Earwax removal includes video otoscopy at the end of the procedure. The price for both ears is $149, or $98 for just one ear. There are no additional nor hidden costs associated with this. 

Prior to beginning cerumen management we will review a history of that ear's otologic interventions, including any instance of infection or pain, perforation or pathology. In a few cases cerumen management may not be undertaken at this clinic, and may be better attempted by a physician or Ears, Nose and Throat surgeon.
