Most modern digital hearing aids feature optional "tinnitus balance" or "tinnitus sound therapy" programming within the fitting software. This is because it has been estimated that approximately 90% of tinnitus experiencers also have a hearing loss. While many patients experience immediate or eventual tinnitus relief as a byproduct of wearing hearing aids, sometimes layering in an auxiliary program with tinnitus sound therapy is of additional benefit. We've utilized the tinnitus masking features found in Phonak, Unitron, Oticon and Bernafon hearing aids with acceptable outcomes.
